Our Editorial This Month:
There Is A Season (Turn, Turn, Turn)*
The Memsahib looked across the breakfast table at me and spoke: “Your editorials are getting too serious and downbeat” she said. As I looked into her soft blue-grey eyes I recalled our first meeting on campus - she in her mini-dress with flowers in her hair, me with long hair, wearing a kaftan and blue square sunglasses (face it, I looked a right twit in those days…).
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap…
Seasons come and seasons go. Folk are born, they become adult, they fall in love and they grow old together. It’s the same with our lives, our cultures, our businesses, our governments – everything changes, everything recycles.
A time to mourn, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep…
So, forget the snow and ice – we’ve seen worse. Already the green shoots are poking up from the ground and at last the Snowdrops are out…
A time to cast away…
A time to gather…
Forget financial problems and the economy – the General Election will sort that out, one way or another. After all, we’ve seen off Fascists, Communists and Terrorists, survived the Depression, two World Wars and even Simon Cowell – we can face anything…
A time to build up, a time to break down,
a time to dance ...
The last issue was a time of change. New technology will enable us to survive in the new decade. Mark you; it turned out to be more of an experiment than we originally realised and many thanks to ‘Capable Caroline’ . We owe you a lot. Thanks!
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
The old fashioned concept of the village magazine being printed on the vicar’s photocopier is being rapidly replaced with new ideas - you should see what they are getting up to in America - and Barton Today is proud to be part of the leadership in this field. Nothing ever stands still and though we all love nostalgia, it really is not what it used to be…
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
Seasons come, seasons go. Even Sir Terry Wogan has left us. Now like a lot of folk, we’ve all switched to Bernie Keith in the mornings on BBC Northampton. Let’s look forward, not back. The future is going to be fun. And it’s only just begun…

*’Turn, Turn, Turn’ - words adapted from The Bible, Book of Ecclesiastes.
Music written by Pete Seeger. Sung by The Byrds.
Flower Power still rules after all these years, baby…
Thought for the month:
‘The question I’m most asked is: “What’s going to change in the next five to ten years?” It’s the wrong question. The right one is: “What’s not going to change in the next five to ten years?”’
